My Day At The Museum

Whoa!  It certainly has been a long time since I posted on this.  Today I decided I should be sharing my latest whim with those who might be interested.

I've been volunteering the past several weeks at our local historical museum, cataloging the items they have. It's turned out to be a monstrous task. (I should live so long to complete this job.) But, I've been thoroughly enjoying it. I'm learning a lot and having fun while doing it. Today I decided to share my experience with those who may be interested.  I'm going to call these posts, "My Day at the Museum."

Since this is a sudden idea that just popped into my head (google whim, and you'll understand); I haven't created a game plan yet.  So, today I'm just going to share some pictures I took at the museum on one of the other days I was there.  They are pictures of some valentines on display right now.  Wow!  Aren't they beautiful?

My photography isn't too great.  I just used my iPhone to take the pics. I'll try to take better pictures for future posts.  This is just to start.

Today I was told that I've been appointed to be the webmaster for the museum's website, which hasn't been updated for years.  I'm tickled pink over this, since computer nerd plays right into my Triple A, Double D personality.  Confused?  AAADD (Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder).  Now you know.  I'll keep you updated on my progress with this new task as I work on it.  To see its current state, check here

Well, that's it for today.  TTFN  (Ta Ta For Now)

Holy Toot! It is 2014.

Wow. Talk about getting sidetracked.... uh, we were talking about that, weren't we?

I'm Bock!

Well now, here it is the same day.... and I'm back to bloggin'. Actually, I just remembered to upload those pictures I took earlier of the little project that side-tracked my intentions. The first picture is my KFC lid with center, the second is the KFC lid without center, and the third is the handy dandy tool I used to cut out the center.  It is a Walnut Hollow Versa-Tool, and I got it with a whole bunch of points and parts. Cool, eh? Actually, no.  It gets pretty hot, so you have to use it with care.  A little tip:  tape the stand to your work table so the tool doesn't take off on you.  I guess it looks like I've got it taped to a watercolor tablet, doesn't it?  But really, the tablet is on the shelf underneath the glass top of my  coffee table.  I guess I could've said "April Fool" on that one.  Now, my next post will be pictures of the project that I used this lid for.... HA!  That's an APRIL FOOL joke.

Adult ADD?.... HMMMMM.

Well, so much for the the idea that I would post to this blog at least once a week. I'm not going to explain, make excuses, apologize... or any of the things I usually do to redeem myself. Yesterday was Easter, today is April Fool's Day. And the last time I posted was at the beginning of this year. And, that's no joke. I believe I might have Adult ADD. I usually can't focus on one particular thing for more than a few minutes. As I start to do something, another idea or task pops into my head and off I go in a different direction. After a while, I don't remember what it was I started to do in the first place. Today is no different. I started my morning off in the usual way.... I got out of bed. Went pee. Took my pills. Filled the cats' and dog dishes with fresh food and water. Started my coffee maker. Let Miss Daisy (my dog) out to do her business. Booted up my computer. Let Miss Daisy in. Gave Miss Daisy a treat (something she has me trained to do to get her to come back inside). Got my first cup of coffee. Sat back down at the computer to check my email, & then CNN.com for the Breaking News of the day... & then, of course, what my friends on Facebook chose to share with the world at hand.  That is all pretty routine for me. I'm able to perform all those tasks on a daily basis without giving any thought to it. But then the attention problem kicks in... I'm all over the place on the net. I check out my favorite blogs, Google things that randomly pop into my head, watch a couple (or more) YouTube videos, and surf 'til I've drained the coffee pot. Maybe it is the coffee that get's my brain firing off all those impulse signals to go here, go there, do this, NO do that. Here is my list of things I have done since I drank the last cup of coffee this morning, (and not necessarily in the order listed, because I struggle with my short term memory): 1. Checked out the progress of the crocheted casserole carrier that I began last Saturday. I had to see if it was going to fit my 9x13 pan. The reason I decided to crochet the carrier is because I had to prepare a breakfast casserole for Easter breakfast the next day. That reminded me how difficult it is to carry a hot casserole to church. So, of course I had to get on the net and find a crochet pattern for a casserole carrier... and, start making one. And, of course, I wasn't able to get it finished in time... but hey, I'm Lutheran; I know there is another pot luck in my future. If you wonder whether I managed to get the casserole done in time, the answer is "yes"... barely. 2. I did a quick hit and miss job of running the dust mop around on my wood floors in a few rooms. That task was prompted by the fact that I found the sand irritating on my bare feet under the computer desk. 3. Went down into the basement to get an art collage project I started a few weeks ago. I had been inspired by a video on YouTube that I watched this morning and wanted to try the artist's techniques on my painting. When I got downstairs, I noticed my pile of dirty laundry and took the opportunity to sort it and get a load started in the washer. 4. Was heading back upstairs when I remembered the collage painting that I had gone down to get. Whew. At least I remembered what I had gone down there for, BEFORE I got back upstairs. 5. As I passed through my kitchen I took a glance at the dirty dishes from yesterday, and thought maybe I should wash them. But, WHOA, there was a plastic top from a takeout KFC meal on my counter.  I decided that the ripples on it would make a neat texture tool for one of my paintings. However, I would have to remove the KFC emblem on it. So, back to the couch and coffee table to "fire up" the cutting tool that was sitting there (from a prior side-tracked project) alongside my crocheted casserole carrier project that I expect to have completed by the next church potluck.  Now, this time I thought maybe I should take some pictures with my iPhone, in case I got sidetracked again and needed a clue of what I was working on.  This works well for me, except for the times I set the iPhone down and can't remember where. Besides, I might want to use the pictures in a tutorial I might write some day about some project I'm doing. 6. And that is what led to what I am doing right now. I got to thinking that I could use the pictures on a blog post. However, I don't have time to upload them right now because I've got to go down in the basement and put my clothes in the dryer. And, I suppose I should do those dishes. I'll get back to this later.... maybe, if I remember what I had started to do before the buzzer sounded on the washer.

Happy New Year!

This is my first post for the year 2013. Actually, it is my first post for this blog. This is a Work In Progress at the moment, which I hope to develop into a site to share creative endeavors. I have two desires for this new year: 1. Do something creative and/or learn something new every day. 2. Really retire (will explain more later). I am not going to call my desires "new year's resolutions".... because, like most, I tend to break those. I will try to post my progress in fulfilling my desires on this blog at least once a week. Yeah, right. For now, I have to sign off and get ready for work.
